What "DBS certificate on file" means

• The tutor has given us their DBS certificate number and we have confirmed the document exists.
• DBS certificates contain sensitive personal information, so we never publish or share certificate numbers, issue dates or contents.
• We do not assess, interpret or re-issue DBS checks — that is the role of the tutor and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
• Tutors are asked to have their certificate ready to show before or at the first lesson.

For parents and guardians

• Ask to see the original DBS certificate before or at the first lesson, and check it is current.
• Verify identity, qualifications and references directly with the tutor.
• For in-person tuition, consider holding the first meeting in a shared or public space.
• Keep communication open with your child and check in regularly about sessions.

For tutors

You are responsible for your own conduct, compliance and records. To make first contact straightforward:

• Keep your DBS certificate current and have it to hand before or at the first lesson.
• Keep your certificate number on file with us up to date so your profile stays accurate.
• Be ready to share identity, qualifications and references on request.
• Communicate professionally and keep records of lesson plans and progress.
